On Thursday, April 11 the senior art students at John Brown University hosted a portfolio exhibit in Simmons Hall. This annual event gave soon-to-be graduates the opportunity to showcase their most career-defining artworks and prepare for the next chapter in their lives.
Christians around the world commemorated Holy Week, marking the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The week is a heart-rending reminder of God’s immense faithfulness and sacrificial love for humanity. The events leading up to Holy Week reveal the depth of God’s devotion to His people. The clearest action He did for us, considering he spoke in parables was dying for us. However, God’s fidelity is not confined to just this celebratory period, but rather extends eternally throughout all seasons and circumstances.

Jeff Soderquist became part of John Brown University in 1988 as a student athlete. He graduated in 1993 and started working right away for JBU. After four years of serving as the assistant basketball coach and the head tennis coach, he debuted as the head of the girl’s program for the 1997-1998 season. After 27 years at JBU, he announced his retirement after completing the 2023-2024 season.
From an early age, Rodriguez showed great interest in subjects related to numbers such as engineering, physics and mathematics. During his senior year of high school, Rodriguez decided to apply for the Walton International Scholarship Program, however, he was not selected.
On Feb. 19, the administration of John Brown University announced the introduction of a new major in Artificial Intelligence within its Computer Science Department, making it the first Christian institution in the United States to offer such major.
On Feb. 16 and 17, John Brown University organized its annual Family Weekend event, offering the student body of JBU the perfect opportunity to invite their families and friends to enjoy various activities during the weekend. From Texas to El Salvador, the University campus served as the host to a large number of families from diverse places. Some of the activities offered by JBU and leadership groups included a special chapel service to hear from President Dr. Charles Pollard, a basketball game and the cherry on the cake, a night full of competition and talent.
The Visual Art Department opened the Student Works Show in the Art West Building celebrating creativity and passion. 48 students presented multiple art pieces in different mediums and entered a competition to win different prizes in their categories. The student-led art club hosted the opening reception on Feb. 16 and the works will be shown until March 15.
On Wednesday, Feb. 14, a large group of the student body of John Brown University attended the 2024 Valentine’s event hosted by The Student Government Association (SGA) “Blind Dates”. This initiative was first organized by a JBU alumna back in 2023, who due to economic struggles, requested SGA to host this event logistically and economically for upcoming years. After considering the idea, SGA agreed to sponsor it.
As the biggest football celebration in the U.S. started and the tension for the halftime show increased, JBU students attended the Super Bowl watch party this Sunday, Feb. 12, in the J. Alvin atrium. The event was organized by SEA and the J. Alvin staff. It included snacks, commercial bingo, and a lot of thrill watching the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers play.
