The John Brown University community celebrates a commendable achievement: The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education (THE) named JBU as the #1 Arkansas university on their 2022 college rankings.

For a second time in the last three years, the university has received this distinction, surpassing over 40 institutions of higher education in the state. This milestone, announced on Sept. 22, comes on the heels of U.S. News and World Report listing JBU in the top ten among regional universities, and the Chronicle of Higher Education naming JBU a “Great Place to Work” for the seventh year in a row.

“I am particularly grateful for this recognition by The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education because it focuses on student outcomes – graduation rates, salaries upon graduation, student satisfaction, managing student debt – which reflects the return on investment of a JBU education for students and their families,” said JBU President Chip Pollard.

The Wall Street Journal/THE ranked JBU 337 out of nearly 800 institutions in the nation based on 15 performance indicators. According to a press release by the institution, the indicators to rank colleges and universities focused primarily on student success and learning in four key areas: resources available to students, student engagement, student outcomes and learning environment.

“This recognition reflects the diligent work of our faculty, staff and students to fulfill JBU’s mission to educate students to honor God and serve others, particularly during the challenges of the last 18 months,” Pollard said.

The Wall Street Journal/THE uses data from a variety of sources, including the US government (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System – IPEDS), the College Scorecard, the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), the THE US Student Survey, the THE Academic Survey and the Elsevier bibliometric dataset.
