As the biggest football celebration in the U.S started and the tension for the halftime show increased, JBU students attended the Super Bowl watch party this Sunday, Feb. 12, in the J. Alvin atrium. The event was organized by SEA and the J. Alvin staff. It included snacks, commercial bingo, and a lot of thrill watching the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers play.
The game was presented on a big screen in front of the atrium and encouraged students to enjoy chips and various prizes after participating in the ad bingo. The commercial breaks between quarters became one of the highlights of the Super Bowl, with different celebrities starring, from singers to former athletes. Yader Suazo, a freshman finance major, expressed his excitement as he attended and watched the whole game
“I liked experiencing the Super Bowl for the first time in the U.S. I always watched it at my home country, but I never knew how excited people get,” Suazo said.
The game was very close, as the teams ended with 22 and 25 points, the victory going to the Kansas City Chiefs.
“I wanted the 49ers to win but I enjoyed watching the Chiefs’ performance, they played very good,” Suazo said.
Jaime Alonzo, freshman computer science major, attended the event and shared how thrilling it was to watch the game with friends.
“The halftime was great. I was extremely excited for Usher, it was the most expected thing for me,” Alonzo said.
The Super Bowl embodies the American passion for sports, particularly football, captivating millions of viewers across the country.
“As an international student the event was a great representation of the American culture,” Alonzo said.
Aside from the cheers of celebration and the comments and disagreement between team fans, there was anticipation surrounding Taylor Swift’s appearance, which made many students more interested and enthusiastic for the event.
