The 2025 Emmy Awards, held on Sept. 14, marked the 77th year of the nationally aired television program. Kicking off the show was a speech and skit by Nashville comedian Nate Bargatze.

Taking home 2 Emmys, both Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series and Outstanding Talk Series, was “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”. With the show recently announcing its cancellation after 15 years, Stephen Colbert gave a heartfelt acceptance speech that closed with a reference to legendary pop icon Prince. He quoted the song “Let's Go Crazy” by saying, “And if the elevator tries to bring you down, go crazy and punch a higher floor.”

Breaking records, the Apple TV+ show “The Studio” (8.1) won 13 Emmys. This show, directed by Evan Goldberg, stars big names like Seth Rogen, Kathryn Hahn and Bryan Cranston. While sweeping the awards in the comedy section, this new satirical show beat big name shows like “The Bear” (8.5) and “Hacks” (8.2) despite having a lower rating on IMDB. With this impressive feat accomplished with just the first season, many wonder what else this show can achieve.

Announcing the Outstanding Writing award won by “The Studio” were Gilmore Girls co-stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel. In honor of the 25th anniversary of the beloved show, the two actors were accompanied by the nostalgic Gilmore House,  a Stars Hollow recreation. In the first on-screen reunion since the miniseries “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life,” the two praised the script that brought the show to life.

15-year-old actor Owen Cooper won an award for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his performance in “Adolescence,” making him the youngest actor in history to win an Emmy.

Despite its raving reviews, the second season of Ben Stiller’s “Severance” lost the award for Outstanding Drama to MAX’s original medical series, “The Pitt.” This show dominated the Drama section by also winning Outstanding Lead Actor, Supporting Actress, Guest Actor, and Casting.

Beloved Actor Harrison Ford, nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in Apple TV+’s “Shrinking,” lost his first-ever Emmy award to Jeff Hiller’s performance in “Somebody,Somewhere.

MAX’s show “The Penguin” won an award with Cristin Milioti as best Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series.

Recently passed Cosby Show star Malcolm-Jamal Warner was recognized in a heartfelt tribute from co-star Phylicia Rashad. Following her speech was a soulful performance of “Go Rest High on that Mountain” by Vince Gill.
