Men’s Soccer Weekend Update

The Golden Eagles Men’s Soccer team finished the Quality Inn Classic this weekend winless after a rain-out and a tie.

On Friday, the Eagles were trailing 2-0 against Northwestern (Iowa) 17 minutes into their match when the game was called due to heavy rain and lightning.

JBU and NWC agreed to not continue the game on Saturday and the game was not long enough to qualify as an official match, so the 2-0 score will not count towards either team’s record.

In Saturday’s contest against Union (Tenn.), the Eagles had to settle for a tie after jumping out to a 2-0 lead.

“I’m pretty disappointed that we took a tie away from this contest,” said Eagles’ Head Coach John Miglarese. “It’s more upsetting because we were up 2-0.”

That lead was the result of freshman midfielder Eli Simonsen converting on two consecutive penalty kicks in the 39th and 42nd minutes.

The Union Bulldogs answered quickly, with freshman forward Seth Guiler scoring off his own rebound 34 seconds later.

In the 31st minute senior forward Guilherme Reis made it 2-2 on a penalty kick and it stayed that way through 2 overtimes.

Next up for John Brown (3-0-1) is Benedictine (Kan.), who the Eagles will host next Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
