JBU’s Men’s Basketball team advanced to the second round of the SAC Tournament by defeating Lubbock Christian 62-49 Thursday night.
The Golden Eagles were led by senior Adrian Miller’s 18 points and 5 assists. Lubbock Christian’s senior guard Rashad Sample led the Chaps with 11 points and all 6 LCU assists.
JBU held a small lead throughout most of the game until LCU used a 12-0 run midway through the second half, capped by a 3 by sophomore Anthony Brancato, to go up 35-33 with 11:11 remaining.
LCU would never have the lead again.
JBU went ahead for good on an 2 by senior Andy Garcia with 5:12 remaining that made it 43-41. The Eagles would outscore the Chaps 19-8 the rest of the way.
JBU will face #7 Oklahoma Christian at 6PM Friday after OC upset #2 Rogers State 83-77.
The score was only 4-2 almost 8 minutes into the game, with both offenses struggling to find a rhythm.
Senior Thomas Galliguez scored a three pointer off a turnover that made it 11-4 Eagles with 8:11 left in the first half. That 3 sparked the stagnant JBU offense as part of a 13-4 run that put JBU up 15-8 with just over 6 minutes to play in the first half.
The Golden Eagles led 25-20 at the half.
