JBU students attend Super Bowl Watch Party

On Feb. 12, J. Alvin’s atrium was filled with cheering, snacks and football conversations as students gathered to watch the Super Bowl LVII.

Students Events and Activities (SEA) partnered with J. Alvin’s Residence Hall Association to throw the Super Bowl Party. The game was between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. The event also included popstar Rhianna performing at the halftime show.

JBU students enjoyed different types of chips, soda and even healthy snacks while watching the game and having fun. Freshman international business major Neskarly said that because it was her first time watching the Super Bowl, she really enjoyed the activity. “I was surprised by how popular the game was and I loved the Rihanna’s halftime show, it was iconic,” Marin said.

As the audience continues to grow each year, the commercials between the quarters have become an important part of the event. SEA organized a commercial bingo that let students enjoy much more than football and receive gifts if they won bingo. By enjoying surprising commercials starring celebrities from Sylvester Stallone to Serena Williams, most of the students were invested in the ads as much as in the game. “It was really interesting, I have never seen a game before, but I really enjoyed all of the events,” Marin said.

“The halftime show was one of the most entertaining moments of the night,” said freshman international business major Samantha Rodriguez. Rodriguez arrived 1 hour after the party started and spent her time playing bingo. “The snacks were really good and the halftime performance was even better,” she said.

With a final score of 38-35, the Kansas City Chiefs became this year’s Super Bowl Champions. The team had an impressive comeback, recovering from being 10 points down at halftime. With this win, the team earned their second NFL title in four years.

As usual, some students were happy with the results and some were not. “I actually wanted the Eagles to win, but it was good anyways,” Rodriguez said. The event was a huge success with over 100 students in attendance.
