Nicholas Jordan, 25, a student enrolled at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, has been arrested on murder charges related to a tragic shooting that claimed the lives of two individuals. The incident, which occurred in a dormitory on the university campus, has left the community searching for answers.

Jordan was taken into custody by Colorado Springs police on Feb. 19, in connection with the fatal shooting of Samuel Knopp, 24, and a campus visitor, Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, of Pueblo, Colorado, as reported by the Colorado Springs Police Department.

According to the CSPD, at approximately 6:00 a.m. on Feb. 16, the UCCS Police Department received a call reporting shots fired in a dormitory located on the university campus.

After the UCCS Police Department located the room where the shots originated from, the CSPD received a call for assistance. Subsequently, the CSPD Homicide Unit obtained an arrest warrant for Jordan.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., Feb. 19, police took Jordan into custody after locating his vehicle an hour prior.

Details from the investigation indicate that Jordan and Knopp were roommates, however, authorities have yet to provide a motive for the shooting or explain why Montgomery was on campus.

In the wake of this tragedy, hundreds of people from the community came together on Feb. 19 for a “healing walk” on campus. Participants laid flowers at the base of a marble statue of a mountain lion, symbolizing the university and its athletic teams.

Hundreds of people, including university members and city residents, joined the healing walk from the north end of campus to its center.
