Salsa Night: A Night Full of Dancing and Music

Loading

The Students Events and Activities (SEA), Language Studies Department, and the Council for International Friendship hosted the Salsa Night event on Friday, Nov. 4, in the Walker Student Center. The night consisted of Hispanic music, snacks, beverages, and dancing.

Students enjoyed the performance of the Salsa Band, Son Sin Gnero, followed by Zumba Instructors that encouraged the crowd to show their best salsa dancing steps. While students, faculty, and staff ate chips and Horchata, the live music group played different genres of music throughout the night.

Salsa Night helps many students get out of their school routine and have a good time. Freshman Integrated Marketing Communications major Andrea Dávila attended for the first time at this event. She mentions that the Salsa night reminds her of her Latin culture. When considering her favorite night moment, she says, “I enjoyed dancing and singing along with the live music. The singer was outstanding.” Dávila stayed there with her friends until the event ended. Dávila continues, “Another thing that I liked was the food. I would have loved more variety, but overall, it was great.”

Besides dancing to the choreography and singing many different songs, the students had the opportunity to participate in a dance competition, and the winner received a cash prize.

Sophomore Finance major Andres Zeledon shares about his second time going to the Salsa Night: “The opportunity to have a live band helped everyone to feel motivated to dance.” During the salsa dance, ten students danced in pairs to the rhythm of the live music while the other students applauded and cheered for them. Zeledon says he enjoyed being in a “Latino environment.” He expresses his love for Salsa and feels “happy dancing to it.” He believes “the event was organized pretty well.”
