“Dune: Part Two” released March 1, 2024, as the long-awaited sequel to “Dune” from 2021. This interpretation from director Denis Villeneuve has left fans and critics alike in pure awe by capturing one of the most iconic science-fiction stories ever written. The first movie was met with high praise, yet “Dune: Part Two” has surpassed its predecessor in a rarely seen moment of cinema history that has drastically changed the world of film as we know it. Often being referred to as being a similar event to “Star Wars; The Empire Strikes Back,” and frankly that might be the greatest explanation I have heard and related to this entire time. There is just so much about this movie that this review will not do it enough justice so you should go see it for yourself.

Starting off, the most of the cast returned with some new additions to help round out the story of Dune even more than before. The acting is so well done, with an excellent script that truly makes this sci-fi epic stand out as one of the greatest. The first one was great, but the second has easily blown it out of the water. Timothée Chalamet is a phenomenal lead that brings the character of Paul Atreides to life and does it once again in a spectacular performance. Each character is so distinct and stands out that it helps the story never feel boring or uninteresting, in part thanks to the great actors who clearly put the heart and soul into their work.

The score is phenomenal this time around with composer Hans Zimmer, who also worked on the first “Dune” back in 2021. This score is so distinct and unique that it helps to bring the planet to life whenever the characters are in the desert or undergoing a point in the plot. By itself, the score strictly speaking is just a step above most other soundtracks that are being produced today by modern Hollywood and it truly shows. Added with all the visuals of the film, the score will easily stay stuck in the minds of all viewers during and after watching the film. Music is such an important part of a movie and I think this is a fantastic example of how much music can heighten a film to be such a great thing.

Being honest, this is easily one of my favorite sci-fi films and series as a whole. Both “Dune” and “Dune: Part Two” have really proven that film is still an art, especially in modern Hollywood. I would easily argue that this is the best movie of the year by far and truly everyone will enjoy watching it. With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 93% with critics and 95% with audiences, and a score of 8.9/10 on IMDb, this is a great movie to go see if you have time, want to go on a date, or even just to enjoy a movie for the fun of it. This breath-taking film has something for everyone and will easily not disappoint anyone who buys a ticket for it. This movie is one of the greatest cinematic experiences of my life and I can’t wait to watch it again.
