JBU Experiences Spiritual Renewal with Guest Speaker Greg Waybright

During Spiritual Renewal Week, Jan. 23-27, at John Brown University, Wheaton College Trustee and President Emeritus at Trinity International University Greg Waybright served as the guest speaker for both chapels. On Tuesday’s chapel, Waybright preached from John 9, the passage where Jesus heals the man born blind. He used this passage to deal with the problem of suffering in the world and seeing that suffering in a biblical light.

Elon Musk Acquires Twitter

After several months of negotiation, Elon Musk has bought Twitter for $44 billion on Oct. 28, at $54.20 a share. Musk’s interest in Twitter began in January 2023 when he decided to invest in Twitter, according to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. By mid-March, Musk held 9.2% of Twitter and became the largest shareholder in the company. After Musk became the largest shareholder, he offered to buy the company for $44 billion in April. Musk also attempted to join Twitter’s Board of Directors on April 5, but within five days had decided against this decision, according to ABC News.

Students Present their Work at Southwest Conference on Christianity and Literature

On Sept. 29 through Oct. 1, John Brown University’s Humanities wing hosted the annual Southwest Conference on Christianity and Literature. The theme for this year’s conference drew inspiration from artist Mary Cassatt’s paintings of girls and mothers with books, inviting conversations about women writers as well as how women are portrayed creatively, especially in religious paintings, films and literature. Other genres of creative pieces were welcome as well. There were several panels to attend, all free for the public. Among several academic scholars from different universities, the University featured five student presenters as well as one alumnus and two faculty members.
