Ice Cream at the Fount Helps JBU students Connect and Build Community

On Labor Day weekend, students gathered on the John Brown University campus quad for Ice Cream at the Fount. The event, organized by Student Events and Activities, brought students together with games, crafts and free ice cream.

From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., students cooled off with cones, made colorful friendship bracelets and joined in lawn games such as cornhole and giant Jenga. Inflatable attractions also added excitement, with many students lining up to race through them multiple times.

For many, the event was more than ice cream and games. Junior Andrew Enoch reflected on how events like this create opportunities to form new relationships.

“I think it’s a great activity. I went with a group of friends and played in the inflatable thing. It was very fun; I even went five times in a row and played cornhole after,” Enoch said. "If you're already plugged in, it's even more fun because you have friends to enjoy it with. But for freshmen, it's also a great way to meet new people if you're intentional," he added.

Behind the scenes, the SEA staff prepared the event with the goal of making space for connections. Throughout the year, the team dedicates time and creativity to organizing events that help students meet new people, form friendships and feel at home on campus.

As the sun set over the quad, students enjoyed a relaxed time of connection and community while making the most of the long weekend.
