The Visual Art Department opened the Student Works Show in the Art West Building celebrating creativity and passion. 48 students presented multiple art pieces in different mediums and entered a competition to win different prizes in their categories. The student-led art club hosted the opening reception on Feb. 16 and the works will be shown until March 15.
The exhibition “Gingers” presented at the Windgate Gallery, Art West Building at John Brown University, takes its name from the term commonly associated with individuals who have red hair, delving into a unique exploration of identity, challenging societal norms and perceptions. Kieran Dodds, a renowned photographer known for his distinctive style and thoughtful compositions, has gained acclaim for his ability to capture the essence of his subjects.
Matthew Campbell, a senior graphic design major, debuted his student gallery on Friday, Sep. 15, after a year-long creative process to portray what he called “an immersive gallery experience.” “Arid” is a combination of Campbell’s artistic passions, as it includes visual graphics elements, an original screenplay and an extended play (EP) with the same name. The debut took place at John Brown University, where a large number of students, professors and general guests enjoyed Campbell’s graphic art, a live performance of his EP and a guest DJ that completed the ambience for what Campbell’s felt like a “successful debut.”
