Celebrating Through Adversity: Injured JBU Soccer Seniors Find Joy in Bittersweet Senior Nights

The John Brown University’s men’s and women’s soccer teams honored their senior players on Senior Night, where the athletes walked alongside their families and were celebrated by their teammates and a supportive crowd. The event, which took place on Oct. 17 for the men’s team and Oct. 21, for the women’s, was sentimental for several of the seniors that had to say goodbye to their teammates and the field where they played for many years. But for a few of them, the celebration also felt bittersweet as they reflected on the injuries that accompanied them and prevented them from playing their last season.

“Arid: A Gallery experience” opens its doors to the public at JBU.

Matthew Campbell, a senior graphic design major, debuted his student gallery on Friday, Sep. 15, after a year-long creative process to portray what he called “an immersive gallery experience.” “Arid” is a combination of Campbell’s artistic passions, as it includes visual graphics elements, an original screenplay and an extended play (EP) with the same name. The debut took place at John Brown University, where a large number of students, professors and general guests enjoyed Campbell’s graphic art, a live performance of his EP and a guest DJ that completed the ambience for what Campbell’s felt like a “successful debut.”

JBU Students bring home multiple awards from ACMA.

Four John Brown University students and Threefold Advocate faculty adviser attended the annual Arkansas College Media Association (ACMA) spring convention held on April 14 in Searcy, Arkansas. As part of the convention, ACMA recognizes the best of the state’s collegiate media output in an award ceremony. This year, nine JBU students and alumni won awards across multiple categories.

How impactful are ESL classes on JBU students?

 Every year, John Brown University welcomes students from multiple cultures. In 2022, students enrolled at JBU from 36 states and 38 foreign countries, according to the university’s website. For some foreign students, coming to JBU comes with the additional challenge of attending classes in their non-native language. To help these students transition into their classes and academic language, JBU offers several English as a Second Language (ESL) courses.

Enactus JBU club members attend ENACTUS World Cup 2022

Four student and faculty representatives from the John Brown University Enactus Club attended the Enactus World Cup 2022 in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Oct. 30 through Nov. 2. The editor-in-chief of the Threefold Advocate, Gabriela Arosemena attended the event as one of the students representing the University.

Women’s soccer takes second place in route to postseason play for the SAC Tournament quarterfinals

The JBU women’s soccer team finished conference play with a 5-win streak, facing only one loss on the season against first-seeded Science and Arts. The Golden Eagles ensure the No. 2 seed into the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament, earning home field advantage at least through the semifinal round. The Tournament quarterfinals begin on Nov. 4 when the Golden Eagles welcome seventh-seeded Southwestern Christian to Alumni Field.

With a striking record and four career hat tricks, senior Jacob Zamarron, forward for John Brown University men’s soccer team, has accomplished a fruitful college career in and out of the field. In an interview with the Threefold Advocate, Zamarron shared that the past three years with the Golden Eagles help him to not only grow as a player but as a man.
