On Oct. 7, Hamas terrorists committed the most violent attack in the history of modern Israel. Starting at 6:30 a.m., militants from Gaza launched approximately 5,000 missiles into the central and southern parts of the country. Ground raids soon followed, taking the lives of 1,400 innocent people and more than 200 hostages by the end of the day.
Following the first round of presidential elections on June 25, in which presidential candidates Sandra Torres, who belongs to Partido Unidad Nacional de la Esperanza (National Unity of Hope Party), and Bernardo Arévalo, member of Movimiento Semilla (Seed Movement Party) came in first and second place respectively.
At the end of the spring 2023 semester, the College of Bible, Humanities and Arts (BHA) faced multiple potentially damaging changes. Patty Kirk, professor of English, and Erin Shaw, professor of Visual Arts, left JBU to take on a new position elsewhere. The music department also lost two professors (Connor Davis and Steve Hamilton) and Jan Luaderdale, the administrative assistant. Brad Gambill, associate professor of English, is also preparing for his retirement within the next few years.
Natalie Davey just became one of the newest faculty members at John Brown University, starting this fall semester as an adjunct instructor for the English Department. This is Davey’s first experience teaching at the college level, marking an exciting point in her professional career. Working at JBU played out as her best option, and she kindly shared with us more details about this new phase of her life.
