John Brown University has recently announced an exciting new project that will greatly enhance the sporting facilities available to students and faculty alike. The Champions Pavilion will serve as a hub for all activities related to the soccer field, providing a comfortable and convenient space for players and spectators. The building will include restroom facilities, a concession area with food trailer access and a large covered space that can be used for eating, and “a 6’ wide paved walkway that will provide better access for fans, especially those with limited mobility” added Julie Gumm, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer of JBU and a member of the President’s Cabinet.

On Tuesday, Feb. 21, John Brown University’s Student Ministry Leadership Team hosted Taste and See: Pancakes and Preparation. The event provided an opportunity for students to hear from faculty and other students on how to prepare for and observe Lent. One of the speakers, senior Kevin Hernandez said, “I prepare for Lent thinking about myself and my weaknesses because those are the specific areas in which I know that I need to improve.” Hernandez, from the Catholic denomination, also said that lent is not about becoming a better person, but about growing closer to God.

On Religious disaffiliation and what JBU should do about it

In September 2022, the Pew Research Center published an updated article on its findings on religious disaffiliation in the United States. The results have changed little since The Threefold last published on this topic, but the results are still staggering. The Pew Research Center article states “about 64% of Americans, including children, were Christian.” This is down 26% from the historic high in 1972 and also down 14% from 2002. The following article will be split into two parts, possible reasons for the decline in the church and what JBU students should do in light of religious disaffiliation.
